The Altona Complex Neighbourhood Consultative Group (ACNCG) was established early in 1989 when industry, community and the local council and the State Government were at loggerheads over land planning procedures in the area closest to the Complex. The consultative committee comprises members from industry, community residents, local council, and authorities. The ACNCG Group meets three times a year. Site specific Environmental Monitoring Teams (EMT) meet in the other months.
“The Consultative Chronicle” communicates ACNCG activities to the wider community. Produced three times a year, the newsletter is distributed to 12,000 homes and businesses in Altona as well as within complex companies and to community organisations.
The success of the ACNCG demonstrates that often the most effective change can be driven by industry acting in a voluntary capacity, in its own way and at the same time reflect community attitudes and incorporate community expectations. A structured process for community dialogue is clearly of help in this process.
ACNCG's Website
In December 2004, the ACNCG was proud to launch its very own website. Developed in house by an ex ACNCG member, the website contains copies of the Group's previous Chronicles, charter, emergency information and background information on when the ACNCG first formed. So visit the Group's website acncg.info and be kept up to date on the ACNCG activities.
A long standing member of the ACNCG has written and recently updated a document about the ACNCG process from her view.
